To celebrate Thanksgiving, the hallways became alive with our own first-grade version of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade called “Balloons Over Broadway.” Students designed their own balloon characters during the week, some with help from their fourth grade buddies. The excited first graders and their teachers then paraded around the school today showcasing their creative and fun balloon designs. Our Kindergarteners also participated in the parade with their "Turkey Trot" in which they showcased the colorful turkeys they have been working on all week. Students put a lot of time and creative detail into their turkey friends! Today was a day of festive Thanksgiving fun throughout the school! Happy Thanksgiving from HCS!

Last week our second graders shared with the entire school community how to "Be cool, follow the rule... Be a good citizen! " The second graders designed posters and gave examples of how to be a good school citizen in the cafeteria, lunch, and hallways. Good citizenship topics included things like " Be a good friend and include others," "Wait patiently and take turns ," and "Honor other people's Hula Hoop Space." Student posters were then hung up in the cafeteria as a reminder for all on how to be a good citizen. Well done Grade 2!

Recently, students in grades K-3 went unplugged and screen-free for a week of STEM activities during technology class. Kindergarten students made oobleck and learned that oobleck is both a liquid and a solid! First—and second-grade students learned about chemical reactions when combining baking soda and vinegar and how they can inflate a balloon! Third graders created paper bats and discovered that the shape of wings can help them fly longer distances! We didn't forget fourth grade! While fourth graders did not go unplugged, they used their creativity to complete digital glyphs!
